Thanks for your comments! We inadvertently put up an old version of the Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid, when it still included canola oil. The current version does not include canola oil, and it has been updated in this post. We will be addressing seed oils in next week’s "In The News", and plan to take a deeper dive into the inclusion of wine in a future post as well. A new Anti-Inflammatory Pyramid with updated recommendations is also coming soon, so stay tuned!
We thank everyone who spotted the mistake and appreciate bringing it to our attention!
IMO wine also shouldn’t be on there. They have discovered fairly recently that even small amounts of alcohol are more harmful than we thought previously
Especially that it’s ANTI-inflammatory (!!) “pyramid”. We know damn well that alcohol in any amount is, in and of itself inflammatory and no amount of antioxidants can make up for it (fermented foods like kefir or kimchi and drinks like kombucha that can have some minimal levels of alcohol in them are out of my knowledge pool, I’m going back and forth on those, but they definitely fit better here than straight up WINE, organic or not). Antioxidants can be sourced elsewhere. I feel like a lot of people just can’t accept that alcohol IS poison, just as cigarettes (which somehow everyone accepted without problem). Drink it or not, organic small winery is always better than mass production, small amounts (1-2 glasses A DAY is NOT small amounts) most likely won’t hurt a healthy person, but pretending like it’s ANTI-inflammatory is a GINORMOUS stretch AT BEST…..
Kombucha alcohol levels are very low. Same for Kimchi and Kefir and other fermented foods and beverages. 0.5-1% vs 11-12% average for wine (some wine is much stronger). But the health benefits of kombucha are also often exaggerated. So if you don’t like the taste or you’re worried it will affect your sobriety you’re not really missing much.
I had a hard time finding the best organic unsweetened soy milk from Edensoy, until I found them and ordered directly online. Much cheaper and shelf stable. Plus company has many interesting other products.
Many of the GMO crops are developed to herbicide and insecticide resistant, mainly to glyphosate aka Roundup. For non resistant crops, the chemical kills them as well as the weed. Since the GMO crops are resistant that means that a field can be sprayed. That also means that the glyphosate is absorbed into the food crop. Glyphosate is a known carcinogen. Unfortunately it has not been banned on the U.S.
Also, since GMO foods that are in the food chain are not identified in the marketplace, the only way to be sure you aren't getting them is to buy organic. That was what my comment was in response to.
Recommending wine for antioxidants is like recommending eating an entire family size of skittles every day for the vitamin c. The amount of research showing the harmful impacts of any alcohol is significant resulting in liver and breast cancers.
I followed this for years and now I created Your Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle Journal, and as a function medicine health coach I support men with prostate cancer in reducing chronic inflammation. Thanks for the strong foundation, Dr. Weil!

To have canola oil on there makes me question the validity of anything in there. That is a huge no!

Right? Such an odd choice.

It is not one size fits all people. You have to figure out what effects you. Most of the eat most tjings here inflamed me.
Informative post. Thank you. It’s frustrating that it’s getting harder to find organic soymilk in stores. Hopefully it will make a comeback :)

Thank you
Soy is one of the most GMO food products on the market.
You have to buy organic.
Exactly. The only way to be sure.
Only when bad commercial.
How is GMO bad for you?

I was also disturbed to see canola oil on there and even grains so low to the basics…
Rice and pasta? This makes me question this. Totally inflammatory. Is this the old USDA pyramid?
Instead of selenium supplements, why not one Brazil nut daily?
Where's The Beef!?
Yes, of course, tea! Don't forget black tea; it, too, has many health benefits, as do most herbal teas, also known as tisanes. All good stuff!
What r ur thoughts of ionized hydrogen water?
Now that’s a food pyramid I could definitely get under
… or, isit behind ?

The voters must decide if we want a democracy or a Russian style autocratic kleptocracy?
Wikipedia says some stuff on the opposite side of supplements.
